2013 Joining Instructions/Successful bids
Canoe Cadet is LNR ACF’s annual canoe exercise held at Yardley Chase over the week of Friday 24th to Thursday 30th May. This will be our 27th year and for the first time in a while, we will incorporate Sail Cadet. Cost for the week is £55.
C anoe Cadet is designed as an introduction to paddle sports for any cadet who would like to have a go. The exercise is conducted using the British Canoe Union Paddle Power Award Scheme.
Paddle Power is a specially developed course aimed at young, novice paddlers and has proved very popular. At the end of the course each person will be awarded a grade of between 1-13, typically you will get as high as level 9 if it’s your first week attending. Everyone will be issued with a training booklet, this will let you know exactly what you have learned and what remains for you to accomplish.
For those who have attended previous Canoe Cadet Courses, if you are of a high enough standard, you can apply for the British Canoe Union 3 Star Award. We will run this course for the second year after last years’ was a huge success. This course will be craft specific, you will need to let us know if you would like to specialise in open boats or kayaks – there is a special form to return to CHQ.
For those who would like a new challenge then you may wish to bid for a place on Sail Cadet.
Did you follow the exploits of Ben Ainslie at last year’s Olympic Games? Were you left inspired by his achievements? Well if so, you could spend a week learning to sail on the same type of boat that Ben trained on when he first started out. There are only 12 places available for this; we will let you know after the cut-off date whether or not you have a place.
If you are interested then you can download the parental information letter here. Please read it very carefully, it requires a response from you.
Remember ANY level of cadet can bid for Canoe Cadet, you need to make it clear which course you would like to attend – this is explained on the parental letter. You must send in a deposit with your bid, final payment is no later than 30th April. You will be informed in early May if you are successful.
Keep coming back; we will update this page over the coming months. In the meantime why not take a look at last years’ blog and photos.
Remember to go to our channel; there are lots of videos of last year’s course.
