Camp 2008

Friday 8th August

Visitors Day arrives and at last the weather turns out to be extremely kind to us; nice and cloudy in the morning for the visitors to wander around the stands, and beautifully warm and sunny just in time for Commandant's Parade in the afternoon.

The Visitors are photographed here visiting, and in some cases participating in, the various activities and stands on display during the morning. As usual the cadets were eager to talk about and share their experiences at camp.
After a well deserved lunch the cadets retired to their billets to prepare themselves for the afternoon Parade and it was obvious from their immaculate turnout that a lot of very hard work had gone into their preparation. Major Andy Ball of B Squadron collecting the Efficiency Trophy, which is awarded each camp to the Company who is deemed to have been the most efficient by all the heada of sheds and the permanent staff.

In–Pensioner Clifford Cassell BEM, who is the uncle of SSM Lee Ellis, and was a guest of the Sgts Mess, was presented with a Statuette by the Youngest Cadet at Camp this year. He joined the (home guard) Cadets at the magazine in Leicester in 1942, which then became the 1st (City of Leicester) ACF in 1942. He remained a cadet until 1944 and then joined the Royal Leicestershire Regiment at Ulverscroft Road before transferring to Royal Army Service Corps (RASC) on the day that Japan surrendered. Cliff became WO1 (RSM) 69 Lowland Transport Regiment (RCT) (Edinburgh) and retired in 1967.

Following the Parade the cadets were given time to pack their things and get ready for the "End of Camp" Disco.

The end of Week One Camp...... the busses will collect the cadets tomorrow morning before dropping off the cadets from A, C & D Company ready to start afresh.
