Camp 2008

Thursday 7th August

The week marches on and sees all the companies coming back into camp and being briefed ready for the Open Day and Commandant's Parade on Friday.

Each year at Camp the names of the successful Lord Lieutenants Cadets are announced on Parade. This is the ultimate accolade for ACF cadets. There is no higher honour than receiving this award and only outstanding cadets are invited to apply for the posts.

Lords Lieutenants are the monarch's representatives and it will be the cadets duty to assist them with their ceremonial duties over the next year and to act as ambassadors for the ACF.

Cdt Cpl Elizabeth Pincombe, aged 17, is appointed Ld Lts Cdt for Leicestershire. She joined the ACF 5 years ago and parades at Castle Donnington Detachment. Her interview, which took place on July 23rd, was a rush to say the least. She landed from her Holiday in Lanzarote at 17.30 and was required at County HQ by 19.30.
Her expectations of the position are to have a great year visiting lots of new places and meeting people She was surprised but very proud to have been chosen and is looking forward to fulfilling her duties.

Cdt Staff Sgt Rico Gilbert, aged 16, is appointed Ld Lts Cdt for Northamptonshire. He has been in the ACF for 4 Years and parades at Wellingborough. He regards his position as Lord Lieutenants Cadet as a privilege and honour and will be very proud when carring out his duties. When training with the cadets he especially enjoys sports and the D of E, where he is currently working towards his expedition, which will complete his Gold level. S/Sgt Gilbert has just gained a scholarship for the army air corp where he will train to become a pilot.

Cdt Sgt Wayne Carmichael, aged 17, is appointed Ld Lts Cdt for Rutland. He joined the ACF 5 years ago and Parades at Prince William School in Oundle
He is excited about his appointment and is looking forward to meeting lots of new people and representing the ACF at official functions
. He is hoping to become an Officer with the Royal Engineers, and his parents are very proud of him.

F Sqn, last to come in from the Exercise, are pictured above holding their own "Mess Dinner" using Compo.

3 years ago the Smagghe family moved to the UK from Northern France and David attended Middle school and then Prince William School at Oundle, where he was introduced to the Army Cadet Force. A year later his sister Gaelle also joined the ACF and thoroughly enjoyed it.They had to move back the France last year, but this has not deterred them and they have returned to the UK to attend weekend camps and then Annual camp here at Westdown.

When they return to train with the cadets they are lucky enough to be able to stay with friends back in Oundle. LCpl David Smagghe now 15 and his sister Cdt Gaelle Smagghe would both like to continue attending Cadets as long as they can because they think it is so much fun.
