A Company Cadets Battle it out at the On a thundery day in Chilwell a team of 4 Cadets from the Company competed in the Eastern Region First Aid competition against 10 other ACF and CCF Teams. The competition comprised of Individual tests, and a team test, all under the watchful eyes of the St. John Ambulance Judges. The Cadet Team consisted of S/Sgt Samantha Hanna, Anzio (Team Leader), Sgt Lucy Graham, Anzio (First Aider), Sgt Leanne Beuhling, Rhine (Runner) and L/Cpl Kiera Pluck, Anzio (Reserve). On the individual tests casualties had a broken jaw, anaphylactic shock, an asthma attack and a cut with embedded glass. All four team members had only 4 minutes each to diagnose and treat their casualties. Moving on to the team test, the team had to work together to assist two youngsters who had fallen off their bikes with disastrous consequences. One casualty was semi conscious with a broken leg, whilst the other suffered a broken collar bone and lacerations to the leg. The treatment on the day was outstanding, with all 4 of the team members proving their abilities to adapt to any situation. In a closing speech the St. John Ambulance judges commented on the high standard of first aid and just how close the competition was. The A Company team achieved 2nd place with 191 points, losing out to Derbyshire ACF by just 4 points!! The Commanding Officer Major Walton has asked me to pass on his congratulations to the team for their outstanding effort.
