Squadron Assists LOROS at Leicester Marathon
Over the weekend 8th/9th October a small number of B Squaron adults and cadets gathered at Victoria Park, Leicester to lend a hand in the setting up, running and the dismantling of the LOROS Marathon. (LOROS is the local Leicestersire Hospice for the relief of Suffering and is only part funded by the NHS, so needs to continually rraise funds for its upkeep)
Saturday started by constructing a number of tents to be used for different activities over the weekend. We managed to erect 4 18'x24' and 10 12'x12' tents by 2pm which was a feat in its self. Once the tents were up over a mile of fencing needed to be put out before 4pm!
After naming the area 'Baby Bastion' it was time to call it a day and go home for some well earnt rest.
7am on Sunday morning and we were there to open the tents and move even more fencing. An hour into the day and the runners started to arrived from all across the country in order to support this great cause. The cadets role had now changed with the collection of baggage to be stored in the tents and later in the day to handing out medals, water and bananas at the finishing line - it was definately all hands on deck..........
After a long day, numerous mentions on the tannoy of how well the cadet force was helping out and lots of praise from the runners it was time to dismantle 'Baby Bastion'.
The cadets were also given a marathon t-shirt, a medal (and as many bananas as they could carry) for their help during the weekend.
I would also like to add my personal thanks to all the adults and cadets who turned up to help this great local cause.
