Colonel Pickering served as a Regular Soldier
in the Royal Engineers before joining Staffordshire ACF in 1979. He became
a Detachment Commander and DoE Rep before being appointed an Under Officer
and opening a new detachment at Winshill.
In 1983 he transferred to Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland
ACF and was appointed Detachment Commander of Coalville before opening
a new detachment in Measham as well as continuing to promote the Duke
of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme in F Squadron.
Subsequently Colonel Pickering became Platoon Commander for Coalville,
Ashby & Measham detachments and was commissioned in 1988.
On promotion to Captain he was appointed 2i/c & Training Officer for
F Sqn before becoming a Major and Commanding B Sqn in 1994.
In 1999 he was appointed Officer Commanding F Squadron where he served
until moving to County Headquarters as the County Training Major in 2004.
Colonel Pickering has been awarded the second clasp to his ACF medal and
the Lord Lieutenant's Certificate of Meritorious & Voluntary Service.
