Sgts Mess Trg Day 2008

Friday night saw the arrival of most instructors, and all had arrived by 21:00hrs. After being given bed spaces all retired to the bar for light refreshments.

Saturday morning at 06:30 was reveille and after a hearty breakfast we held Muster Parade. This was followed by a drill parade when some instructors, under the eye of the RSM, discovered that they were perhaps not as competent as they thought they were..... a learning curve for all!

The Commandant then made his opening address and handed the proceedings over to Captain O’Brien.

The adults were split into 6 teams and took part in a round robin of events including archery, clay shooting, radio/signals training, paintball, orienteering and skill at arms on the LSW
Everyone completed their red book tests and those that required it took the matrix test. Some had FMT600 familiarisation with county HQ staff, Captain Bloor and Captain Walton.

At the end of the day Colonel Pickering gave a camp briefing and then we had a short formal mess meeting. A busy day for all!

The evening activities commenced with a curry, cooked by our Ghurka chef - it was excellent. This was followed by a casino night arranged by SMI Cross and the entertainments committee.

Fortunes were won and lost on the turn of a card. I personally lost £17,000!! Congratulations to SSI Love who won the most money and a bottle of champagne. As SI Hunt decided to wipe me out in the poker room, I think I owe him one. It was interesting to see how serious it became and all I can say is that I am glad it was not real money. However, this could be a way to recover mess bills…(only joking)!

All those who attended had a great time and Sunday saw a clean up before the departure for home locations.
