National Outdoor Tug of War Championships - 20th June
Saturday 20th June saw Team LNR competing in the National Outdoor Tug of War Championships, which were held at the Royal School of Signals, Blandford Camp, Dorset. Other than the European/World Championships, this is the highest level of ToW in which we can compete.

Teams competing against us were:

Junior Men
Sandhurst, Cornwall ACF, City of London ACF

Junior Ladies
Cornwall ACF, City of London ACF

The First event was the U18 Female 560kg class which ended with LNR ACF competing against Cornwall ACF. This was well contested with LNR ACF coming out winners by 2 ends to nil. The following event was the Male 530kg class which went to form with Sandhurst winning 2 ends to nil against LNR ACF.
The U18 Female 520 class was a very lively affair with the outcome mirroring the 560kg class with LNR ACF matching up against Cornwall ACF and the result was also the same with LNR ACF winning by 2 pulls to nil.
The much eagerly awaited weight class was the Male 560kg class with 4 good teams matching up against each other. This class is also the weight class that dictated which team would represent England at the forthcoming World Championships being held in Holland during September 2009.
It was a closely contested event, with some excellent pulling by all teams. LNR ACF rested a few pulls from the 530kg class to concentrate on this weight and it paid off.  We met a very good up and coming Sandhurst team who I believe will be our biggest competitors in the next few years to come.
After a hard fought contest and some excellent pulling it was LNRs stamina that won the day by 2 ends to nil.

Final results from all the classes we entered were as follows:

  1st 2nd 3rd
Junior Men 530  Sandhurst LNR ACF   Cornwall ACF
Junior Men 560  LNR ACF Sandhurst Cornwall ACF
Junior Ladies 520  LNR ACF Cornwall ACF City of London ACF
Junior Ladies 480 LNR ACF Cornwall ACF City of London ACF
LNR ACF Female team members should be very proud of their achievement - winning Gold medals in both classes of this inaugural competition at the National Championships.

Congratulations to all those who took part in the competition and good luck to our Male 560kg class who have won the honour of representing England at the World Championships to be held in Holland during September 2009.
