D Company Cadets Visit Duxford

On the 11th September a minibus full of cadets from the Company descended on the Imperial War Museum, Duxford for the Royal Anglian Regimental Gathering.

On arrival we were ushered over to the memorial for the Drumhead Service and the march on of the Regiment, the Royal British legion and the Veteran's Standards. Afterwards we formed up behind the Northampton Branch of the Regimental Association for the march past, where we gave a smart ‘eyes right’ to the memorial.

After we fell out we were free to explore the many stands and attractions that were there, and also given free access to the Imperial War Museum. Most of the cadets began their tour at the Land Warfare Museum where we saw old and new combat vehicles and other very interesting exhibits. Incorporated in this section is the Royal Anglian Museum which tells of the early formation of the Regiment, exhibits a replica of the original regimental colours and some old, rare Officers' Mess silver.

I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to chat to a Chelsea pensioner who had a keen interest in hearing what we wanted to do after we leave the cadets. He also shared his memories of when he was in the army; it was fascinating to listen to him talk about his experiences.

At approximately 3 o’clock we gathered round the memorial to watch the Minden Band of the Queens Division Beat Retreat - being a keen bandsman, I though this was great.

Before embussing for the journey home we took a group photograph at the memorial.

A great day was had by all - thank you to the Adult Instructors for organising the visit,
