Rothwell Detachment "Taster Day" September 2011
On a hot and sunny, Saturday 19 cadets from Rothwell detachment helped run a Taster Day for potential new recruits, mums and dads, and representatives from the local Academy and the Heroes Charity Shop. It was organised by Cdt Cpl Denis as part of his 3 star cadet in the community training and he took the lead by organising all of the events as well as the cadets.
Five of our cadets, who are also part of our Company Corps of Drums, played to open the event and cdt Cpl Denis laid on demonstrations of Foot Drill, Rifle Drill, First Aid, SAA, and Map & Compass an organised a team event for the cadets during their lunch break. There were also static displays as well as a cake stall, tombola and a "grenade" range with water bombs.
The day ended with a good soaking for the detachment commander (that would be me then!) sitting in the middle of the grenade range and allowing everyone from the detachment to aim their water bombs at me.
We raised around £130 for detachment funds. Very well done to Cdt Cpl Denis for all his hard work in making the day run smoothly and a big thank you to all of the cadets and adults who helped on the day.
