D Company Cadets Enjoy "Steelback" Exercise

D Company took seven cadets to the "Steelback" exercise weekend. Leaving on Friday evening they arrived around 10pm to a cold foggy camp at Bodney where they bedded down for the night in the billets.

A very early start to the next day and the cadets were broken down into Companies. We were paired with A Company and cadets from Cambridgeshire ACF to make 1 Company.

During the course of the day the cadets undertook a variety of activities including camouflage and concealment, observation practices and target shooting on the ranges. They were also given the opportunity to try on the new operational equipment and armour as well as a look at the variety of weapons in use by British Forces who are on tour at present. Following practices on their section battle drills, and a walkthrough of FIBUA drills, they had to practice these skills to help clear a building.

As the sun set for the day the cadets continued with the scenario and prepared to put their earlier practiced battle drills in to use. The aim of the exercise was to take back the village and our mission was to drive back the enemy. Once the village was safe an harbour area was established nearby and the cadets bedded down for the night.

As the sun rose on Sunday the cadets packed their bergens and walked back to the village ready to take part in the CQB paintball, command tasks and obstacle course.

After exhausting all of their energy the cadets took a well earned rest on the minibus during the journey home; it was obvious from the chatter that they'd all had an exciting and fun packed weekend.
