Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze Expedtion Practice

30 cadets from E Company spent a weekend trekking around Rutland carrying thier kit, food and water to practice for their their 2 star and Bronze Duke of Edinburghs Award expedition.

After spending time on Saturday morning checking their kit and food and ensuring that everyone had plenty of water, it was time to sort out the route cards. Although this is covered during map & compass training, it is vitally important that the route card is correct or the cadets could get very lost when they are out on the ground applying the theory.

Cards checked, the cadets boarded the mininbus to be taken to their start points some distance from St Georges Barracks. With everyone dropped off, it was then a waiting game for the DS at various checkpoints. Great to see the happy smiling faces appear and in some cases they were heard long before they could be seen!

Early evening and back at the Barracks the groups slowly started to appear and their tents were erected. Whilst other training was taking place, the wonderful aroma of dinner started to waft around the detachment. Meal over, it was time for everyone to concentrate on day 2 and another route card.

After a good nights sleep (and yes we could hear all the snoring!!) the teams were off again to enjoy the delights of a different part of Rutland.

With many new skills learn and some aching legs and feet, the kit was packed away and everyone went home tired but happy and looking forward to their experdition proper early next year.
