Mayor of Corby, Councillor Gail McDade & Councillor Beattie Visit Yardley Chase

E Company were privileged to host the Mayor of Corby, Councillor Gail McDade and Councillor Paul Beattie, for a visit to their training weekend at Yardley Chase.

After a quick introduction to E Company HQ staff over a cup of tea, it was time to visit the cadets out on the ground. The cadets challenged Councillor Beattie, who is a former cadet with Corby III detachment, to get all 5 shots on target. His forfeit, should he fail, was to act as a model for the camouflage and concealment training which followed next. Fortunately for him, he managed to meet the challenge and was spared the camouflage cream!

The Mayor was shown around the cadet accommodation and all the training facilities prior to taking a trip out on to the training area to see some senior cadets operating on advanced fieldcraft techniques. Councillor McDade said, "I am very impressed with the attitude of the cadets and the skills being learnt for future life, the ACF is a great organisation for young people to join".

Councillor Beattie said, "Both the mayor and I were delighted to be invited to visit young people from Corby and surrounding areas on a training weekend with the Army Cadet Force; it gives us a great insight into the organisation and the way it operates. As an ex cadet myself, I have enjoyed getting involved again, I would recommend the Army Cadet Force to anyone of the right age; the activities it provides are fantastic."

"We have also learnt a great deal about the instructors, who aim to bring out the best in the youngsters they look after - I pay tribute to the "army" of volunteers that keep it operational through difficult times."
