January is the time for the annual NCOs’ Mess Dinner for Corby III Detachment. It is the one occasion when the senior cadets at the detachment get to dress up in their best bib and tucker and have some "me" time without having to look after the junior cadets. |
 |
|
For the first time ever it was decided that some of the potential NCO's should be invited prior to their testing cadre later in the month. |
It would give them an insight into what they can achieve and something to strive for.
On arrival the cadets were greeted with a Bucks Fizz and then had their photographs taken before sitting down to Dinner. The menu consisted of roasted root vegetable soup, a turkey dinner followed by three scoops of delicious ice cream. The evening was rounded off with coffee, Toasts and Speeches and all too soon it was time to go home. |
|
The PMC this year was Cdt Sgt Webster and Mr Vice was Cdt Harvey (who managed his toasts perfectly without once checking what to say!) |

This year our honoured guest was Staff Sergeant Instructor Peter McAteer who had to leave us late last year due to work commitments. It was really good to see him again and chat about the past and present. Our gift to him was called "Memories"; a short movie to remind him of the good times he spent with us. His acceptance speech was very reflective and as you would expect there was a bit of a voice wobble during it. SSI McAteer will be missed by us all. |

Once again, the evening was a complete success, helped in no small part by the staff at the Rockingham Forest Hotel who were extremely helpful throughout; we have already provisionally booked for 2011!

Our Mess Dinner is one of the unique things that make our detachment gel so well as a team and make Corby III just that little bit special.
Well done everyone...
