Corby Cadets Training Day

Cadets from Alexandra and Corby III joined forces on the 21st January for a detachment based Training Day.

One by one, cadets were showing up bright and early ready for the long day ahead. There was training available for all Cadets from Basic to 3* with the seniors either instructing or assisting with the 1* expedition.

Prior to the weekend, the 1 star Cadets had been paired up and were told to prepare their lunch ready for cooking on the day. The idea of this was to get everyone used to cooking with a trangia for future expeditions. The Cadets had been quite creative with their menus, ranging from hotdogs, bangers and mash and bacon!

Other training topics covered the expedition walk not just the cooking!, First aid, 2* Skill at arms and route cards, 3* drill with the basics covering many parts of their syllabus including drill and fieldcraft.

All in all, I deem the first training day of the year a great success. The Cadets from two different detachments were able to work together and share skill sets very well. I’m certain a lot of subjects have been passed and star levels have been progressed!

I look forward to our next joint training day!
