Company Weekend - December 2011

E Company celebrated its last company weekend of the year with cadets from Corby, Oundle, Melton, Oakham and St Georges, trying to get their first promotion.

The December weekend traditionally inclused the Junior NCO Cadre and our junior cadets who hold or have nearly completed their 2 star are put through their paces on drilling a squad, having an interview, giving a lecturette, dealing with a plan-ex and finally, discussion.

Following this demanding weekend a report is sent back to their Detachment Commanders to use as a tool to assist them in deciding who should be promoted. Those cadets who show they excel in their leadership capabilities, and who do get promoted, truly know that they have earnt their promotion!

The same weekend saw ECTO back on their 4 star progressive training and we have to say a big thank you to WOII Connell who took them through their range dutues with the LSW.

The ECTO sections continued to improve their fiedcraft skills with a slow walk through & talk through of setting up a harbour and harbour drills, each taking their turn to prove that they have the ability to instruct this to junior cadets and ensure it is understood.

Saturday evening was a testing time with a command task which allowed them to truly understand how the chain of command works and the problems it can cause if messages are not past on correctly. This was followed by a leaderless task resulting in a powerpoint presentation and a period of intense questioning that certainly made them all sweat and have to think very hard after a long days training.

It was a very intense weekend but everyone went home with a definite sense of achievement.
