Melton Mowbray Detachment Training Day

On Saturday the 13th June around 40 cadets took part in a training day at the Melton Mowbray detachment. The day began at around half eight with the cadets arriving and the activities started at nine O’clock.

We had a very busy day with cadets taking part in different bases including a small walk, climbing (which Lance Corporal Butcher won in a time of 13 seconds), and shooting in the 25m range (won by cadet Hart). It was a really hot day and luckily we managed to keep away the rain. The cadets enjoyed taking part in all of the activities and all of them participated in everything (even the cleaning up!).
Once the activities had all finished at around half past four, the cadets were treated to an Iceland finest choc ice, which went down very well in the heat! After that Lance Corporal Butcher plugged in his amp and laptop and started to play the music in the big outdoor marquee.
SSI Ward started up the BBQ and the cadets managed to eat copious amounts of burgers and sausages. When all the food had been eaten the games commenced. However, Sgt Pearson and Cpl Hale found water bombs proved much more interesting. (Sgt Smith probably came off the worst!).
The disco continued and the cadets enjoyed dancing in the marquee listening to Cpl Butcher’s fantastic songs! All in all it was a great day helped along by the weather and of course our adult instructors, Lt Whitehead, SSI Ward, SI Smith, Miss Brown and Miss Allen.

Most importantly, the cadets have asked for another training day to be organised, so they must have enjoyed themselves!
