Royal British Legion Banner Dedication

On Sunday 25th September 2011, members of the Royal British Legion from the Oundle and surrounding area branches, along with a handful of Prince William School cadets, gathered at the Oundle Cenotaph to join in the dedication of the new RBL banner. The detachment banner, which was carried by Cdt LCpl Mannsfield was also on display as it was partly funded by the RBL and it was an ideal opportunity for us to show it off.

Under the direction of the parade marshal, SMI Wayne Palmer, we formed up behind our Banners for the march to St Peter’s church, led by the soon-to-be-replaced RBL banner. On arrival at the church, the banners went in through the main door with the cadet escorts going through the side door to be welcomed by a full church of Sunday worshipers. We quickly formed three ranks in the corner and waited for the proceedings to begin.

As soon as the old Banner had been laid up and the new one blessed the RBL swiftly moved outside and with a firm nod from the minister, the escorts joined them in the open air.

Photographs were followed by a brisk walk down to the detachment for tea and biscuits where the cadets mingled with the RBL members. Highlights included Cdt Sgt Hillyer catching up with WWII veteran Rolf Carter and members of PWS receiving a "History of Khaki" lesson from a merchant navy veteran.

Overall a very successful day for the members of the RBL and the cadets of Prince William School Detachment.
