St George's Cadets Assist at 2011 Rutland Marathon
On the 6th of November, cadets from St George’s detachment descended on Rutland Water to assist with the Rutland Marathon again this year. We met up with our adults before heading off to our various watering points where we immediately sprang into action, splitting into groups and generally sorting out our lives.
In what seemed like a much shorter time than last year, the first runner passed us and we were underway, honing the skills that a few of us had learned last year. There were a variety of techniques on show from the runners, including the under cup platform and the over cup grab. As they had to complete two laps of the particular part of the water that we were manning we were kept very busy as the runners started coming thick and fast. Keeping up with the task of pouring water into cups became increasingly difficult on a very arctic day! Luckily for us, Cdt sgt Dixon had acquired various confectionaries and was acting as our "Naafi", so we were well placed for a few high sugar snacks - there were some very serious looks of desire from runners and spectators alike!
Eventually the last runner passed us (in his bomb disposal suit) and our tasks were completed. Overall it was a very enjoyable day and we were all presented with a Rutland Marathon Tee shirt.
