Specialist Training Weekend

Cadets from Corby, Melton, Oundle and Oakham merged at North Luffenham for another weekend of hard work training and testing.

Cadets training three star were busy learning the art of instruction and keeping their lessons interesting on the Junior Cadet Instructors Cadre (JCIC). They were lucky enough to spend a whole weekend with me!

The start of their day was a shock to the system as they realised how hard it is to remember all you need to remember to look professional and make the subject interesting. Within the first hour all cadets had given a mini lecture on a memorable part of their life; worryingly, most struggled to remember it once they started to talk about it! It was at this point that they realised how easy seasoned instructors make it look. After plenty of hard work, interaction and explanation the theory had been learnt and it was time to plan and practice for their own lectures to be delivered the following morning.

All too soon Sunday appeared and lots of nervous faces gave way to smiley ones once they had finished thier instructional period. The day ended with 15 more junior NCO's ready to go into the world of instructing.

Whilst these 15 were busy another 8 were learning new skills on the Cadet Radio User (CRU) cadre. A whole new language was being absorbed and throughout the day cadets could be seen wandering around the barracks with varying radios attatched to themselves. Sometimes they could be seen clutching their throat and at other times holding their ears, fortunately there was no talking to the cuffs of shirts!

One overheard conversation. "What is your location.....over?" "on the radio....over" Classic!

As quickly as the centre became noisy on Saturday morning it became calm and quiet on Sunday afternoon, as everyone went home with a whole new batch of skills ready to try out in their detachments.
