This was a locally based weekend held at St George's Barracks in North Luffenham. The aim was to gain more subject passes at the relevant star levels and to run a JCIC. With a total of 16 different training groups running over the two days the cadets and adults were kept very busy testing first aid, basic expedition skills, map & compass and drill.
The range was also running during the weekend where mixed ability shooting was the order of the day. Some of the shooting scores were not too good, but was due in no small part to the strength and style of wind. One cadet commented "I know what to do for strong wind but what am I supposed to do for a strong swirling wind"?
We had also been tasked with assisting an early "Cadet 150" celebration by completing some community work and tree planting. The event, which was organised by Mr Hewitt, the ACFA liason officer to the Woodland Trust, took place at the George Henry Wood, between Stretton and Clipsham. Fourteen cadets managed to assist in planting 150 saplings an hour for 2 hours; the number planted was a pure fluke but seemed very fitting for our forthcoming celebrations!
All in all, a very successful weekend. A large amount of star passes entered on Westminster and lots and lots of happy and tired cadets going home each night.
Looks like we will be repeating the event a lot more in the future.
