E Company News
Captain R Boyle, a previous High Sheriff of Rutland presented E Company of Leicestershire Northamptonshire and Rutland Army Cadet force with 12 tickets to see the Colonels Review of Trooping the Colour on Saturday 9th June. Detachment Commanders from the 6 detachments covering Corby to Melton Mowbray needed to find those most worthy of going, eventually this was done and the Cadets told. There were 3 outstanding cadets from Corby who managed to go. 10 cadets and 2 adults boarded the 07:47 from Kettering
to London and after a walk down the Mall we entered through Whitehall
into our seats. An amazing military parade took place before our eyes.
At 11.00 on the dot the Queens, empty, carriage pulled up in Horse Guards
Parade and over 1 hour later it followed hundreds of smart soldiers down
the road After a quick lunch we were able to gain access past the security cordon to Downing Street, plenty of photos were taken outside number 10 and 11. Unfortunately no one was home, and we apologise to the cleaner as the door will need to be re-polished after we all made sure we touched it! A short time later we were aboard The Original London Sightseeing Tour, with thanks to Arriva for the free tickets. We managed to see most of the normal sights of London and also some unplanned ones like a Naturalist Bike Rally and many religious demonstrations, but it is that that makes London so exciting. There are now 10 Cadets who are working hard to try to secure places for a trip we hope to make an annual event. Lt Sean Smales
