Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Expedition - September 2009

Nineteen cadets from E Company took part in their bronze Duke of Edinburgh expedition over the weekend of the 19/20 September 2009
We arrived at Corby detachment at 9:00am and were given our briefings and instructions, including maps of our individual routes that we were to undertake during the weekend.
We were then taken to separate starting points, where we began our fifteen mile trek across the countryside around the Corby area.

We had to negotiate our way across the fields, leading up to separate villages including our certain stopping points where we were reunited with Lt Smales, SI Crosby and SSI Rowley.
We all came across different difficulties along our routes which included encounters with herds of cows, horses, barbed wire and electric fencing, which all took a physical toll on every member of the groups
We all joined together at our campsite, East Carlton Country Park, at around 6:00pm where we set up camp, cooked dinner and completed our route cards after a very exhausting day. Even so we somehow found the energy to get back up and have a few hours of free time to burn off the remaining energy that we all had (including Cdt Reed earning the name of “Streaker” after his appearing act from the showers in just a towel!) Other members of the group, including SSI Rowley, sang along to the film Mama Mia!
We all awoke bleary eyed and tired at 7:00am after a fairly sleepless night and then set off on our final leg of the journey. Groups 1 & 3 wasted an hour around the airfield strip, and we carried on with the remaining miles. Eventually all groups made it back to the cadet van and the adults who were sat outside waiting for us.

A quick trip back to the detachment at Corby where we presented our completed walks to SI Crosby. We then decided that we had all earned ourselves a McFlurry. With a last team effort we cleaned both the minibuses inside and out before leaving for home.

We would all like to thank the Instructors for their hard work and effort in making the weekend an enjoyable and memorable one.
