Cadet Music Camp
On the 21st October 2012, SSI Davies and 14 cadets, 9 from F Squadron and 5 from A Company travelled to Longmoor, Hampshire to take part in the Annual Cadet Music Camp.
Nearly 450 cadet and adult drummers and musicians from 30 Counties attended the course over the October Half Term. Cadets from all parts of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland enjoyed expert military musical tuition, together with traditional cadet training, including target shooting and sports competitions.
The camp was divided into training wings to suit all abilities - from beginners to the most experienced musicians, with Band, Corps of Drums and Bugle sections to ensure that cadets received training according to their needs. This was the first Music cadre for all but four of the cadets and they were placed with the Beginner Corps of Drums. Three trained with, and completed the 2 star Cadre, and Cpl Wadkin was with the senior 4 star cadre.
All of the cadets from LNR came away with a wealth of musical knowledge and APC music passes, and with their respective remembrance parades just around the corner, some vital practice. The week-long camp built up to a final performance which was a "Beat the Retreat" Parade, where all the cadres had the opportunity to show VIP's and guests what they had achieved.
Special congratulations go to cdt cpl Wadkin, who is the first ever cadet from LNR to pass the senior drum-majors course and to cdt Small-James who won best flautist on the beginners cadre.
SSI Davies, who runs F Sqn's Corps of Drums, and attended the camp as the county's representative said; "It was great to see our cadets involved in such a huge event, and each one showed great enthusiasm and put a lot of effort into their training. It was a privilege to watch how they progressed throughout the week and to see them perform on the final parade, smartly turned out in their ceremonial Uniforms.
"Cadet force music has been slightly overlooked within our County for the past couple of years, but seeing first-hand the greatness music in the ACF can do for the cadets and their counties, I feel that there is a bright future ahead for music within LNR.
"The next CFM Event is on the 30th March 2013 at Altcar Camp, Mersyside. And we are hoping for another great turnout".
