Castle Donington Remembrance Weekend 2011
Cadets and Adults of Castle Donington once again supported the Royal British Legion in their busiest weekend of the year.
On Friday evening the cadets provided the Guard of Honour for the 90th Anniversary celebrations of the British Legion at Yew Lodge, Kegworth, where they lined the entrance to the hotel as guests arrived for their evening. The cadets were particularly please that guests stopped and spoke to them and thanked them for their support. Later they were invited into the dinner to watch the F Sqn Corp of Drums Black Light Show.
Saturday, as with most other detachment, the cadets took their places in the local streets and supermarket to raise money for the RBL Poppy Appeal.
On a lovely sunny Sunday, we had a very early start. Although it was the first parade for some of the cadets, they were all immaculately turned out as they marched to the Soldiers & Sailors Club to take their place with the rest of the Castle Donington parade, under the command of Parade Marshall SSMI Gilbey. Cdt Cpl Gilbey carried the Detachment Banner, whilst Cdt Cpl Hobbs led the parade carrying the Royal British Legion Banner.
As always the public turned out in great force to support the parade. Immediately it finished we headed straight to Hemington for a service at the Memorial followed by a well deserved break at the Solders & Sailors club where we were given drinks and cakes made for us by the British Legion.
Sunday evening the cadets were back in uniform as they attended the Royal British Legion Service of Remembrance, where Cadets, Branham, Dawson and Barlow read the names of the fallen during the service.
Remembrance Sunday is a time to reflect on the sacrifices made by so many in the past and to remember the men and women currently serving in the armed forces.
“Freedom is never free – We will remember them”
The number of cadets, their turnout and bearing, their behaviour and especially their commitment to all the events that took place over the weekend, is to be commended. I am very proud of you all - Thank You.
